Do you know what the percentage shown on your CBD oil bottle—5%, 10%, 20%, and so on—actually means? Read on to learn all aboutSEGMENTS how CBD oil concentrations are calculated.
Contents
When we talk about CBD “concentration” in a CBD oil, this refers to the amount of cannabidiol in the product relative to the container's total volume (usually a bottle).
The CBD content is usually expressed as a percentage or in milligrams—either % or mg. These are simply two ways of indicating the same thing: the amount of CBD relative to the total volume.
CBD oil bottles usually contain 10 ml of product, although this is not always the case. One millilitre is equivalent to around twenty drops of oil, while 1 ml corresponds to approximately 1,000 mg (as a general rule).
So, if an oil is labelled as containing 10% CBD, this means that CBD makes up 10% of the product's mass: 10% of 10,000 mg (10 ml x 1,000 mg) = 1,000 mg of CBD. If the label on your oil says 1,000 mg, this means the bottle contains exactly 1,000 mg of CBD (in this case, the percentage is not specified).
CBD oil concentrations typically range from 5% to 40%. This means CBD oils are available in concentrations of 10%, 20%, and so on. As you may have gathered, the higher the percentage, the higher the CBD concentration—and therefore the more CBD each millilitre contains.
Concentration is not the same as potency, which cannot be guaranteed. It simply refers to the amount of cannabidiol in your bottle of CBD oil and, more specifically, in each drop. This allows you to adjust your dosage to suit your needs and preferences.
The first step is to extract the cannabidiol from the hemp plant flowers, grown sustainably and organically wherever possible. The aim is to extract the molecule, along with the other cannabinoids naturally present in the plant, and dilute them in a carrier oil. The extract will vary depending on the spectrum selected (Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum, or isolate), but this does not change how the CBD concentration is calculated.
The next step is calculating the exact amount of CBD in the bottle. For example, a 20% CBD oil in a 10 ml bottle requires 2,000 mg of cannabidiol. The rest consists of the carrier oil and, where applicable, added natural flavors.
Do the concentrations seem to vary widely? That is perfectly normal, particularly when comparing isolate and Full Spectrum oils. It also allows brands to meet every customer's needs. Some people prefer a milder oil, while others prefer an oil with a higher CBD concentration.
Now for the important part: how do you choose the right concentration when buying one or more CBD oils online? The answer depends on you. It is a personal decision based on your metabolism, experience, sensitivity to CBD, and needs. How would you like to include CBD in your wellness routine?
If you’re new to CBD, we recommend starting with a lower-concentration CBD oil, at 5% or 10%. This will allow you to get used to the potential effects of CBD gently and gradually.
If you already use CBD, you can try 20% or 30% oils. These may have more noticeable effects.
Bear in mind, however, that the highest concentration is not necessarily the best choice. Pay attention to how you feel and adjust the dosage to suit you. You can also consult a healthcare professional for guidance.
Whatever you choose, we recommend opting for premium-quality products that are legal and tested by independent laboratories. Now all that’s left is to explore our wonderful CBD oils and choose the concentration that suits you best!
